Hold:

We are giving Knotty Boy Locksteady Gel a 1 because rather than holding loose hair down it just dried on them making them stiff and crispy. It also seemed to make adjacent loose hair stick together a little. This caused loose hair that may have otherwise gone unnoticed to be more obvious. When the product had dried completely the dreadlock felt crisp. Fortunately this is not a styling product and no claims about hold are made.
Visibility:

The Knotty Boy Locksteady Gel is not visible on light colored hair but if you have dark dreadlocks you may notice little white specks and a shiny almost oily look on your dreads after applying the gel and allowing it to dry. The more gel you apply the more whiteness you'll see. Not to worry though it's simply sugar crystallized on the surface of the hair and will disappear when it's washed.
Scent left behind: Yes

Limey! Knotty Boy Locksteady gel smells like limes with a touch of alcohol, most of our testers liked the sent and didn't find it overpowering.
Taste:

Yes, I had to throw this one in here. After gooping up with Knotty Boy Locksteady gel I was tossing my dreadlocks around when one flew into my mouth, and it tasted like sugar, low and behold I looked at the ingredients list and the second ingredient is sucrose (which is sugar).
Residue:

Knotty Boy claims that Locksteady Gel has a "wash-out formula" and after two washings with a residue free soap it all appeared to be gone so it received no stars for residue.
Vegan: Yes
Ease of use:

Knotty Boy Locksteady Gel is very easy to apply. It has a gel-like feeling. But it can be too easy to apply, so don't over-do it, because you will have white specks left behind.
Functionality:

Unfortunately this product does not do what it says it does. It claims that it tightens dreadlocks but it has no active ingredients capable of tightening dreads. It's first ingredient is aloe vera gel, which is a conditioner and a moisturizer. It adds enough moisture to the dread to make it feel tighter, just as wet dreads feel tighter after a shower, but when it's dry you're back where you started.
The second ingredient is sucrose, otherwise known as sugar. The sucrose dries in the hair and makes it stiff much like hair gel. The third ingredient is hemp seed oil, which is another conditioner.
Nutrients:

Yes, it's got nutrients. Aloe vera gel, hemp seed oil, and vitamin E, it's all nutrients for goodness sake, but tighter dreads it does not make.
Greasiness:

No grease what-so-ever! There are some oils in the product but not enough to leave behind any greasy feeling.
Comments:
Because it contains aloe this product is a decent moisturizer and conditioner. It also has a pleasant scent. Unfortunately it's going to flavor your dreads more than it will tighten them.
Price per ounce: 4 oz. jar $3.00 per oz.
